- Art Historian/Seljuk and Ottoman Art and Architecture
The Department of Archaeology and History of Art, Bilkent University, seeks a specialist in Seljuk and Ottoman art and architecture. Rank open. Ph.D. required. The position is full-time and renewable. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The department offers BA and MA programs that focus on ancient and medieval Turkey, the Mediterranean basin, and the Near East. English is the language of instruction. The teaching load is normally 3 courses per semester. The candidate hired will be expected to teach, supervise research, and conduct research in Islamic art and architectural history with a specialization in Seljuk and Ottoman art and architecture. In addition, the candidate should be familiar with Byzantine art and architecture; museology; art historical methods & theory; and introductory-level art & architectural history, in order to share in the teaching of those subjects.

- The Department of Archaeology and History of Art, Bilkent University, seeks a full Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor to serve as Department Chair. Field: open, but within the larger frame of Anatolian archaeology and art & architectural history, ancient to early modern. Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching essential. Preferred starting date: September 1, 2008. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience; rent-free furnished on-campus housing provided. The department offers BA and MA programs that focus on ancient and medieval Turkey, the Mediterranean basin, and the Near East. English is the language of instruction. Department faculty come not only from Turkey, but also from the US, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Great Britain. Enrollment: 75 undergraduates, 20 graduate students, 15-20 exchange students from Europe (Italy, Sweden, e.g.) and the US. The Chair will be expected to develop the research activities of the department: organizing conferences, attracting major scholars to the campus, promoting curricular initiatives that open new directions in research and teaching, and exploring the possibility of launching a scholarly journal in English.
