Applications and nominations are invited for the post of Director, Bilkent University Center for Teaching and Learning, CTL.
Bilkent University is a private, non-profit research university in Ankara, Turkey. The language of instruction is English. The goals of CTL are to maximize teaching and learning effectiveness, to develop the use of instructional technologies, and to support continued professional development across the university, among faculty members as well as doctoral students. The current location for the center is within the Main Library.
CTL is one of the foremost important instruments at Bilkent University for the promotion of excellence in teaching and training activities.
Reporting to the Provost, the Director will establish and provide leadership for CTL. The director will be instrumental in designing and providing programs and processes for the faculty to develop teaching and to stimulate innovation in teaching, learning, and the effective use of educational technologies. As an experienced change agent and educator well-versed in educational research and passionate about improving student learning, the director is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering a university culture in which effective teaching and incessant teaching development is valued and practised. Other responsibilities include developing means to evaluate educational outcomes, developing a teaching and learning web-site, confidential supporting faculty for excellence in teaching and exploring opportunities and challenges identified by research and resulting from the evolution of higher education, social trends, and emerging technologies. Finally, the Director is expected to teach two courses each year in his or her home department.
Qualifications: Candidates should have a record of exemplary university teaching, experience and interest in higher education, the ability to work effectively with faculty as a leader, innovator, and a collaborator, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Particular interests in and experience of English foreign language environments and the use of technology to enhance learning would be an advantage.
