Who should I contact if I lose my apartment key(s)?
If you lose your apartment key, please report to the Housing Office during
working hours, and security after working hours and on weekends.

Can my spouse and children get a University ID card?
An affiliate ID card is not available for spouses and children, however bus cards
for family members can be obtained by filling out the application form for
Bilkent University Temporary Access Card at the Housing Department.
Can my family members use the sport facility?
Even though an affiliate ID card is not available for spouses and children, family
members can use the sport facilities and get a temporary card after filling out
the required forms and providing some documents along with their payment
receipt at the Student Dormitories Sports Hall.
Is there any travel agency near Bilkent University?
Yes, there is a travel agency conveniently located on the University
Campus area.

Does the university provide meal tickets to my family members?
Every month, Bilkent University provides "Meal Tickets" to all full-time
employees only.
Is there any Notary Public Office near the University?
Yes, there is a Notary Public Office in Bilkent Plaza, A Block, # 53, located
across from the Bilkent Center. Phone: (312) 266 1482
Whom should I contact for phone repairs or services?
If you are having problems with your domestic phone line (290-xxxx), please call
the Housing Office for help. If your phone connection is through PTT, call 121
for problems. Please note that personnel may not speak English, thus, you are
advised to make your call with the help of a native speaker..
Does the Housing Office staff fix or install my personal property in my University apartment?
The Housing Office personnel can help you with all the maintenance problems you
have in the apartment, also they can make arrangements for
mechanics/repairman to come and fix your personal property. However, if you
make your own private arrangements you have to pay the service fee to the
people who handle the problem in your residency.
Who should I contact when the washers and dryers in my apartment/laundry
room are not working properly?
Please call the Housing Office to report the problem.
Is there Internet access in all faculty-housing apartments?
All main, middle and east campus apartments and tower buildings are wired for
high-speed network connections. Residents do not have to apply anywhere to get
their homes wired for Internet access. However, each housing unit has its own IP
address, which can be obtained from the Housing Office (unless it is present in
the residency). Three IP addresses are allocated to each apartment. If you have
only one computer to be connected to the Internet, you can use any of the
addresses given for your residence.

Is there a dry-cleaner near the campus area?
There are two dry cleaners; one is located on main campus inside dormitory
building #69, and the other dry cleaner (Dryman) is located in Real at Bilkent
Center.

How far is the closest grocery store to the campus?
There is a market called Bilmarket (Meteksan Market) located right behind the
Student Union Building on Main Campus. It carries food products with a good
selection of foreign foods, fresh produce, daily newspapers, detergents,
stationary, etc. Please note that alcoholic beverages are not sold in any store on
campus. Bilmarket is open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day, including
weekends.
Can I use my original driver's license in Turkey?
According to the Highway Traffic Regulations (stated in article 88), foreigners,
except tourists and temporary job holders, who came to Turkey with the purpose
of working, providing service or receiving education can use their original drivers
license as long as they have a notarized translation of their original license with
them at all times.
Also, if you have an International Drivers License issued on your name in your
country (International Drivers Licenses are not valid in the country they are
issued), you can drive both blue plate and Turkish plate cars with that document
in Turkey.
How do I convert my original driver's license into a Turkish one?
If you wish to get a Turkish driver’s license and already have a driver’s license issued in your country, you need to present the following documents listed below to the Traffic Registration Department (Trafik Tescil Müdürlüğü) located inside the Ankara Department of Security (Ankara Emniyet Sarayı) on the Konya Highway.
- Your original driver’s license and the notarized translation (Your original license is returned to you immediately)
- Residence Permit (original and photocopy)
- Application forms and dossier which can be obtained from the Driver’s Association Office (Şoförler Derneği) in the Traffic Registration Department in the Ankara Department of Security from window # 48.
- Health report which can be obtained free of charge from local health clinics (Sağlık Ocağı) the closest of which is in Barış Sitesi on the opposite side of the Eskişehir highway across from Bilkent. Phone: 295 9383.
- Blood type, which can be obtained from the Bilkent Health Center.
- Criminal Report which can be obtained from the Ankara Court House (Ankara Adliye Sarayı) in Sıhhiye. Phone: 509 3180
- Five passport size photos of yourself.
- A receipt for 235 TL which is paid at the Ministry of Finance (Maliye Bakanlığı) window in the Driver’s Association Office in the Ankara Department of Security.
- Driver’s license fee of 62 TL
10. After obtaining all these documents, go to Finger Print Department (located one floor below the Traffic Registration Department) where they will take your fingerprints, and your license will be ready the same day in the afternoon.
It is recommended that you get your health check, your driver’s license translated and notarized before going through with the other proceedings, as the rest can easily be managed in one day, if you go at 9:00 a.m. Also, you are advised to have a Turkish colleague or someone fluent in the language to help you with the forms and procedures at these offices.

Where can I get a document showing my gross income and deductions in order to send it to my country for tax purposes?
You could directly contact our Budget and Financial Affairs Office and ask them
to print out the form that you need to send. Make sure to state where you are
from, due to procedural differences among countries.

How do I get a Residence Certificate?
Residence certificates used to be issued by the Bilkent University Housing Office
Management, however, according to new law numbered 5490, Residence
Certificate (not to be confused with residence permit) will be provided either by
Population Registration Offices (Nüfus Müdürlükleri) or Muhtarlık Offices
(Executive Office for each district/neighborhood in a city). Please contact
Housing Office Management for the address of the Muhtarlık Office for this
neighborhood.
Residence Certificate: It is an official document verifying your residency in the
assigned faculty housing apartment at Bilkent University.
Are there any other Turkish Language Courses available in Ankara?
There are several courses available in the city where you can learn Turkish;
some of the reputable ones are at TOMER and the Turkish American Association
(TAA) For further information about course schedules and fees, please visit the

Can international faculty members get a museum card?
Until further notice, Museum cards are only available for Turkish citizens and international students.
How can I obtain an ID card in order to use the National Library in Ankara?
As stated in official gazette, all faculty members are eligible to obtain permanent library cards. All you need to do is fill out the form and show your current ID (Bilkent University ID) to the National Library attendant to get your National Library entrance card.
Can I use wireless network in the faculty housing apartments?
Bilkent University does not provide wireless network service in the faculty housing apartments. You can check the electronics supply stores and purchase the wireless network adapter for your personal use. When needed, you can ask for BCC ‘s help with your computer’s wireless set up.
