We consider hybrid systems where each job has a physical state characterized by time-driven dynamics and a temporal state characterized by event-driven dynamics. A common problem is to derive an optimal control strategy to trade-off the conflicting objectives of minimizing job completion times (satisfaction of customer demand) against the quality of the completed jobs. We formulate an optimization problem for systems with separable costs and present a hierarchical decomposition method to solve it.
