"The reading room"
Early last May, 2001, much-loved students Efe
Erel and Kerem Uğurel were killed in a car accident.
Everyone felt devastated by this tragedy. During the early
fall, the parents of Efe and Kerem decided to create a memorial
for their sons. They donated and oversaw the remodeling of
the large corner room H-135 into a reading room for the use of
department students. The room was officially inaugurated
in December, with family members present. Once a dusty office and then
a run-down classroom, the reading room is now an elegant and
comfortable place, with attractive tables, chairs, plants, and
steadily filling bookcases. In addition to reading and studying,
the room is used for graduate seminars. We are all most
grateful to the Erel and Uğurel families for their generous
gift.
