As a part of the Faculty Academic English (FAE) programme at Bilkent University, the FAE-FADA/FHL unit provides students with a range of content-based academic English and writing courses, from undergraduate to graduate levels of study. The FAE-FADA/FHL unit specifically supports the academic development of students in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture and the Faculty of Humanities and Letters but provides first-year courses to students in all faculties.

In addition to academic English writing, our courses focus on the development of essential intellectual processes and study skills. In terms of the intellectual development of students, a priority is given to critical thinking, reading, and approaches to research. In relation to study skills, an emphasis is placed on time management and work planning, effective exam techniques, team working and team management, together with the development of independent learning skills. Furthermore, all courses offered by FADA/FHL have been designed to broaden the ability of students to engage in a range of speaking situations that form an essential aspect of academic life, such as presentations, group debates, discussions, seminars and participative tutorials, with improved confidence and competence.

Both the intellectual processes and practical study skills emphasised in all FADA/FHL courses enable the students to significantly improve their confidence, ability and motivation to engage in and benefit from their faculty studies.
