ISTE Nation Educational Technology Standards

In the following section I examined the six ISTE technology standards and provided narrative on how I met the specific performance indicators for each of them. The six standards are listed below.  Click on them or scroll down the page to explore the performance indicators and our narrative.

I. TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

VI. SOCIAL, ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES

I. TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS

Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:

A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education
Technology Standards for Students).

I feel that I am able to demonsrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology. All the projects that I created an exhibit on exhibit section indicates my skills, concepts and understanding concerning technology.

In this lesson,

  • I learned how I can use internet and how I can send a mail to other people.
  • I replied several qustions by using web search tools.
  • I prepared a bookmarks which is related with Exticntion of dinosoures by using nestcape bookmark composer.
  • We prepared a web quest which is about Deforestation by using word processing and internet skills.
  • I designed a photosynthesis diagram by using inspration software program.
  • I prepared a spreadsheet which related with calculation of grades of students by using microsoft excel.
  • I formed a list of Biology software programs by using microsoft access.
  • I prepared a power point presentation which is related with Famous sports in Turkey by using microsoft power point.
  • I prepared a hyperstudio stack which is related with Differences between plant cell and animal cell

B. demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.

I will try to follow contemporary computer magazines in the library. I will try to learn new improvements in computer technologies. Also I am using internet to reach the new improvements in the software area of Biology.

II. PLANNING AND DESIGNING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EXPERIENCES

Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology. Teachers:

A. design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.

B. apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.

C. identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.

D. plan for the management of technology resources within the context of learning activities.

E. plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment.

Yes, I am able to organize good and appropriate learning environments for children. The big problem that we can face with in the future can be is less number of computer in the computer labs. Each student could not have a computer. We can solve this problem by arranging the time of computer use. Each students will have certain time to use a computer, so each students will use computer equally.

III. TEACHING, LEARNING, AND THE CURRICULUM

Teachers implement curriculum plans, that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning. Teachers:

A. facilitate technology-enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.

B. use technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.

C. apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.

D. manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.

I used to use technology which is used by teacher to enhance student learning. I used the computer which is used to present information in a child oriented manner .  As questions surfaced, the Internet was used as a research tool.  Websites and software were examined to help answer these questions and dispel any myths or misconceptions the children may have had.  As we know, children have different interests and strengths.  By using a variety of software and Internet sites, each child was able to find something that appealed to him or her at their own level of understanding.

IV. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. Teachers:

A. apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessment techniques.

B. use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.

C. apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate use of technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity.

I learned how I can keep records of students by using microsoft office tools. I prepared some rubrics and grade schedules for students. These computer based techniques will be helpful for me. It will take short time to follow the students' growth and development. By doing so, I increased my productivity and decreased the amount of paper work lying around the office. Also, the report cards created with Microsoft Office look much more professional.

V. PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice. Teachers:

A. use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.

B. continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.

C. apply technology to increase productivity.

D. use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

VI. SOCIAL, ETHICAL, LEGAL, AND HUMAN ISSUES

Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice. Teachers:

A. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.

B. apply technology resources to enable and empower learners with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.

C. identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity

D. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.

E. facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.

I think moral issues are so important in classrooms. Students learn lots of behaviors and atttitudes from their teachers, so teachers should be able to demonstrate good moral attitudes. They should be a good model for their children. They should encourage their students to be honest in the class and in their social life.
