The History of the United States program emphasizes five  subfields spanning the late 18th, 19^th and 20^th centuries. In addition to taking the U.S. history survey and historiography courses, graduate students may anticipate a strong grounding in U.S. diplomatic, intellectual, military, political, and social history. The U.S. history faculty seeks student scholars interested in researching one of these areas, especially between the American Revolution and the early post-Cold War era.
