SERVICES INCLUDE:

Shopping: If you wish, the Housing Office employee responsible for your building can take written orders everyday (once a day) before 9:30 a.m. You can put a note on your door to request basic items, such as newspapers, milk, bread, etc. Please always remember to keep your shopping requests to a minimum.

Garbage Collection: Your garbage will be collected three times a day, at 9:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, and two times a day, at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., on weekends and holidays. Place your garbage in front of your door in a plastic bag at the stated hours. Do not put sharp objects or liquids into the bags. Also, prepare a separate bag for recycling items, such as glass, plastic, paper and metal.

Recycling: Bilkent University is encouraging all students and staff to take advantage of the Recycling Bins and Waste Battery Bins that are placed around campus. These offer the opportunity to properly dispose of waste batteries, and recycle plastics, aluminum cans, glass bottles, paper and other items.

Recycling Bin Locations: Near the 64th, 77th, 90th and 91st dormitories, the Main Housing Entrance, near Uptown Bistro, Middle Campus near Housing No: 103, East Campus Housing Entrance, and near Blocks 42, 79 and 80.

Waste Battery Bin Locations: Dormitory Entrances, Marmara Restaurant Entrance, EA Building Entrance, B Building Entrance, East and Main Campus Housing Offices, Middle Campus 106th Block, FEASS Entrance, FADA-FF Block Entrance, and the Student Council Building Entrance.

Maintenance and Repair: All maintenance and repair requests are to be made to the Housing Office by filling out a ‘request form’. Someone should be present in the apartment during repairs. Maintenance is free of charge but the cost of repairs or replacements of damaged items will be billed to you. Please do not make direct payments to the University staff that carries out maintenance work (carpentry, plumbing, cabinet and container repairs, light bulb changes, etc.) in your residency. All maintenance charges will be reflected on your monthly bill prepared by the Housing Office.

Maintenance Regulations: Residents are cautioned not to make any modifications, whether structural or electrical, to the facilities, nor attempt any remodeling without consulting the Housing Office Manager. If you think that your apartment needs improvements such as repainting, new carpeting, flooring, furniture, new kitchen cupboards, closets, bathroom tiles, electrical appliances or curtains, please contact the Housing Office, as they can arrange such items and services, with the University contributing 50% of the total cost. Please note that the Housing Office will make the final decision regarding the quality of the new/replacement item with regard to certain standards.

Laundry Rooms: Some of the faculty housing apartments have conveniently located laundry facilities available free of charge. Please inform Housing Office personnel if you have any problems with the appliances.

Drinking water: Bottled water is delivered on Tuesday mornings to Main Campus and buildings 79-80, Thursday mornings to buildings 101-105 and Friday mornings to East Campus. Containers and payment should be placed in front of your apartment door before 8:00 a.m. At time of publication, a 19-litre bottle of water costs 4.25 YTL. To order bottled water at times other than those stated above, you can call 266-1206 or 266-1820 any day between 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Mail: Mail is delivered to your mailbox everyday between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Bottled Gas (for cooking*): Requests for the replacement of bottled gas should be made to the Housing Office during office hours at 266 4388 or ext. 1400, 1551. After 5:30 p.m. and on weekends, please call the extension numbers provided below. Please note that the personnel on duty at these times do not speak English. At time of publication, a bottle of gas costs 44 YTL. Depending on the amount of cooking you do, a bottle of gas can last roughly 2 to 4 months. If you run out of gas at a time other than the hours specified above, mini electrical cookers can be provided.

TELEPHONE AND SATELLITE/CABLE TV SERVICE

Telephone: University extension telephones can be set up in apartments upon request. To arrange full-service national and international telephone service in your apartment, you must do so through your department. Please note that you can have the cost deducted from your salary if your phone is connected for outside calls through BCC. You can also have a private phone line in your apartment. In order to have a private phone line connected, please follow this procedure:

  • To subscribe, please go to the Bahçelievler Türk Telekom Office and fill out an application form in person. (Address: Bahçelieveler, 3. Street, No: 32 and Ümitköy 8. Street , No:63). The nearest Bilkent Shuttle Bus stop to Bahçelieveler is at the National Library.
  • Bring your passport (original and one copy) and residence permit (original and one copy) with you.
  • As of publication, the connection fee is 7,5 YTL. This amount will be stated on your first invoice.
  • You can pay your phone bill at the banks stated on the invoice or at Türk Telekom offices. For your convenience, you might want to choose the automatic payment option, with the amount drawn directly from your bank account.
  • If you have any problems, call 121. Please note that most personnel do not speak English. You are advised to make these calls with the help of a native speaker.
  • To have your line disconnected, please go to the same office with all the required documents listed above. If you would like someone else to request that your phone line to be disconnected, notarized authorization is needed.
  • Please make sure that you have a telephone that is compatible with the Türk Telekom operating system.

Local Calls: Just dial the seven-digit number. Please note that if you have a phone number starting with ‘290’, you should dial ‘9’ if you are not making a call to a ‘290’ number. To call within the University, you do not have to dial ‘290’, only the last four digits of the number.

Long Distance Calls within Turkey: Dial the area code and then the seven-digit number.

International Calls: Dial 0+0+ country code+area code+number.


DIGITURK Satellite Connection:  

  • To subscribe to DIGITURK, call 440 1334 and state that you would like to have a DIGITURK connection in your apartment. Registeryour name and contact information. Most representatives know English.
  • DIGITURK personnel will come and determine the best location for the satellite dish to be placed outside of your building.
  • As of publication, the installation price is 85 YTL, and should be paid on the same day that your DIGITURK connection is installed.
  • Please make sure that you sign a contract with DIGITURK accepting the terms of use.
  • You can make your regular monthly payments to all banks except AKBANK. In case of late payment, you must make your payment at Yapı Kredi Bank only. This will be subject to a 10% late fee.
  • In case of problems, call 478 6680 or 442 3344.
  • There are several packages to choose from, with varying prices. Get more details at www.digiturk.com.tr
  • To have your service disconnected, please call 0212 473 7373 and state that you would like to cancel your contract.
  • Please make sure to return all the equipment to DIGITURK after cancellation.


Cable TV Connection:

Residents who live in buildings 1-46 can obtain a cable TV connection.

 

  • To subscribe, go to the Bilkent Plaza PTT Office in person or call 444 0 126.
  • You must to bring your passport (original and one copy) and residence permit (original and one copy) with you.
  • As of March 2008, the connection fee is 43 YTL. This amount will be included in the first bill. Please note that these charges change frequently.
  • As of March 2008, the monthly payment is 7 YTL. Payments can be made at the banks listed on your invoice.
  • For problems, call ext. 126 and leave a message. Please note that most personnel do not speak English. You are advised to make these calls with the help of a native speaker.
  • To have your line disconnected, please go to the Bilkent Plaza PTT Office with all the required documents listed above. If you would like someone else to request that your cable be disconnected, notarized authorization is needed.

INTERNET CONNECTION in UNIVERSITY HOUSES

All faculty housing apartments are wired for high-speed network connections. Residents do not have to apply to get their homes wired for Internet access. However, each housing unit has its own IP address, which can be obtained from the Housing Office(unless it is provided in the apartment). Three IP addresses are allocated to each apartment. If you have only one computer to be connected to the Internet, you can use any of the addresses given for your residence.
