Currently we are not hiring but we are always interested in unsolicited applications by senior philosophers. The first ad in the following should give some idea about what we are expecting from our potential senior candidates and how they are supposed to make an application. It is noted that these ads appeared in APA's Jobs for Philosophers, Volume 188 (November 5, 2010). They are now obsolete. SENIOR OPENINGOne new position (rank: Full Professor), commencing September 2011. The candidates should be analytic philosophers with a distinguished record of articles in leading journals and/or books published by reputable publishers of philosophical research. They should have a currently active, pertinent, and contemporary research agenda and a wide recognition of their work in the literature. The graduate (MA and PhD) programs of the Department are in progress; they will take shape largely in accordance with the AOS and AOC of such senior appointments. Two courses per semester in small classes. Salary competitive and commensurate with credentials. Rent-free furnished apartment on campus is among the fringe benefits. Candidates should send a CV and a list of references, accompanied by a signed cover letter detailing how they can contribute to the enrichment of academic life in the Department. To ensure full consideration, applications must be received (no electronic submissions please) by Tuesday March 1, 2011. Send application to: Prof. Varol Akman, Chair, Department of Philosophy, Bilkent University, Bilkent 06800, Ankara, Turkey. AA/EOE. JUNIOR OPENINGOne new position anticipated (rank: Assistant Professor or Instructor), subject to budgetary approval and commencing September 2011. Three undergraduate courses (two preparations) per semester in small classes. AOS and AOC open, but candidates with strength in analytic philosophy are especially encouraged to apply. The Department offers, among others, a couple of large, multi-section, university-wide courses in social and political philosophy in the tradition of "great books" and prospective faculty should be prepared to teach these. Candidates should preferably have an earned PhD at the time of appointment and show evidence of outstanding research potential. Salary competitive and commensurate with credentials.
