“ Mapping FB Building ”

First we have catty entrance...

When you enter fb building in the right side of entrance

we have Cengiz's room and the left side Segalini's room.

When giong upstair we have secretary room and some other

teachers' room, and then we are coming the class of second

year students. We have graphic design classes, drawing

classes, and we have tea/coffee room "for staff only".

Also when we look at from the top of fb building we can

see the toilets which located near side of the building.

At the top of the building we have computer labs and some

teachers' rooms too. For ex. Marek's room...

In front of the building there are banches where people

sit and smoke and chat.

inside the building there are banches where people sint

and smoke and chat. Inside the building there is a desk of

a security gard who you can never find him there. There is

a big hall and stairs in front of you and there is a pano

where many posters are attached. When you go one half

stairs up there are teachers rooms and secretary room. The

whole floors have studios for students where they do their

projects. In the classrooms there are desks which are

generally putten attached to each other and make an easiar

area to work. On the walls of the rooms there are usually

writings of students to make fun. There is a teacher desk

and a small glass room for the assistants perhaps. There

are huge windows in the classroon where they let in a

perfect light. In the corridors of the building there are

students succeded works which they are really good I think.

There are many eating places in Bilkent which are really

good but mainly I like the which makes home food,

Alacarte. There is many other choises, there are different

sections and they serve different types of food as you

prefer. There are several rooms for you to choose to sit

whether you smoke or not. But these smoking rooms are so

crouded and too smoky that you can't even see each other.

So many people prefer sitting outside. There are small

cafes outside where people usually go to have a coffee or

a muffin and chat not eating. But I prefer these small

cafes because there is no croud and you can sit where ever

you want to. The Express cafe has made a new section where

the walls are made from glass which make it shiny and you

can see outside. There is a big plasma Tv where they show

music clips and plays fair enough good songs. It's a warm

environment. Sometimes I take a sandwich with friends and

sit outside on grasses and between trees within the

nature. It's also to fun. The construction of the building

are pretty good especially the fine arts building, I think

it's kind of postmodern, there are cloms which makes it

look classic.

In the building there are toilets, classrooms, studios.

Also there is a class which is like amphi there are

teachers' rooms. All studios are like each other. The

building is postmodern. Also there is a dark room where we

can take the negatives of the pictures. There is a class

which we take drawing lesson. In the drawing class there

is domkeys. On the walls there are posters of films. Also

there are some sketches. In classrooms there are some

graffities and writing on the walls. In each studio there

is teacher's room.

In the entrance of fb building there is an information

desk. When you turn left you will see two rooms one of

them is one Advisor's room and the other is alessandro

Segalini's room. Also there is a room at right it's

Cengiz's room. When you go upstairs you will see lots of

classrooms. These classrooms belong to first grades. At

left there are Alex's and Mariusz's classes. If you pass

by those classes you will see narrow ladders. These narrow

stairs will take you to the toilets, in first floor there

is woman WC and in second floor there is men WC. When you

go upstairs and reach second floor you will see second

grades classrooms and also a drawing studio. The classes

on this floor are Alessandro's and Marek's classes. When

you go upstair you will see classrooms again. In first,

second and third floor there are instructor room, close to

the stairs. There is a computer room on the third floor.

First of all, our faculty has a beautiful interior design.

First it seems like it is very complicated building because

of the stairs & rooms, etc. The faculty have big and

confortable classrooms. Also faculty has small offices

that teachers can use. The faculty has computer labs too

however it closes very early so students couldn't work.

Moreover, we have cafeteria in campus such as Kiraç,

Speed, Express Cafe. Those cafeteria have self service.

However, I don't like the interior design of Speed, the

colors are very bad (blue & weird yellow). All in all, the

campus is very big and the placement of faculties is very

good, I love my school also I love my campus.

FB is the graphic design building. In the FB building you

can find offices of the instructors. There are many

working studios placed 3 floors. On the 3rd floor there is

a macintosh computer lab. There are toilets at each floor.

FB has connection stairs for both FA and FC. Working

studios have too much space for working freely. In the

macintosh lab there are nearly 40 computers for students.

There is a faculty guard at the entrance of the building.

Near there is Express cafe, a self-service cafe. It has

two sections for smokers and non-smokers. Express cafe is

a bit more expensive than Speed. There is Speed behind the

Interior Design building, Speed includes Kiraç, Ala-carte.

There are a lot of cats everywhere in this building. They

are kind of part of the department. Graffiti on the walls

are forbidden. We gotta keep the walls clean (!) and nice

(!). Our Toilets are the worst in all University (imho).

We have a Mac Lab on teh top floor. It's useful must of

the time, but it closes at 5 p.m.; before our class ends.

Our cafes and restaurants too expensive, and food is not

always good. But we don't have much alternatives.

Once upon a time, when we were eggs, cells and bones there

was a thing called FB graphic Design building. At the end

of the 80s only genvias and burjuva people can enter the

department. The amazing thing about our department is that

Einstein had graduated from FB. And then Cengiz Hoca took

control you can see his room when you enter the building.

He was the instructor of many masters like Egon Schile,

Degas, van Gogh e.t.c. People didn't have an habit like

going out for dinner or something like that so express

cafe which is right express next to our department,

collected all the people's attention so everybody started

to go there, the most famous cafe ever. Mostly with the

foods, you can ever die from the taste BOAGH! Here comes

the most beautiful toilets of the world smelling like

roses, when you enter the door you see a sign like (?) so

you can guess how creative we are. At the top floor we

have our magnificiant mac lab, the owner is Mehmet Abi he

collects 6 millions for everything :p so this is the end

of the legend - if you will just come to FB and see if

it's true or not?

If you go to the Fine Arts Faculty there is FB building

which is built for Graphic Design students. In FB

building, students can use computer lab for their

projects, and they can use the dark room to create a

photo. A room which has got desks with lights for students

who take animation class. In Fine Arts and Architecture

faculty there are three restaurants where students can eat

and rest. Speed, Kiraç, Express. Students usually sitting

and eating in front of the "Speed". In FB building each

floor has toilets. One toilet for each floor. The

architecture of this building is a bit confuse new

students because FA, FC and FB buildings are together and

sometimes while you are trying to find your class you may

find yourself in FA or FC building. In FB there is a room

of Graphic Design Secretary and some rooms for teachers.

Students can benefint from movie room as well.

In FB building all I can see is cold white walls with

pointless lighting. The lighting is so bad that it makes

white walla more cold that I want to escape from classes.

Beside that there are some posters on the wall,

accidentally you may realize that you're in Fine Art

department. Offices may be more fun places, because they

are decorated personally sometimes.

About the eating places in Bilkent first of all there is

Express Cafe between FF and FA building, pretty good place

this year the place expanded, and now they have yes smoking

area. The place is kind of cool but in all their meals they

use peppers. If you don't like pepper you definitely

shouldn't go to "Express". By the way Express is the only

restaurant that has döner in Bilkent. When it comes to

Speed it has  3 choices in the place, 1 is fastfood, like

ordinary fastfood places. The other two are A la carte and

Kiroç is that they are expensive, they are charging for

nothing. Obviously their mentality is that they belive,

all Bilkent Student are rich bastards that they should abuse :((

So Speed sucks!

First of all, I want to start with the ouside of the

building. It`s like a monument. Because of the colons. I

think the impression they give us a gothique prit.

Secondly, the color of the building light brown is my

favourite color that's why I like it. Inside of the

building there are some drawings, posters and pictures. In

my opinion, they represent this department. These are the

basic things of Graphic design. And also I want to mention

about the odeon's. They are full of technology and you can

concentrate on teacher more than a class, because of the

plan of sitting. On the other hand, I don't like the

toilets. They are dirty and full of cigarettes. Although

the classes also dirty. But I like because lines, drawings

show us. There are somebody who try to do something.

There are many eating places in Bilkent. But my favourite

is Mozart. Which is located in mssf. Meals are very

delicious. I advice you to go there. If you haven't been

yet. Taste it, you'll like it. I noticed that, the best

thing are schnitrel and marine steak. There are also other

choices, Express Cafe, Cafe Break and Kiraç. These eating

places like a cafe or starbucks (not exactly nearby :)

they are sweedy and also the atmosphere is hot. But

sometimes they are smelling badly. Finally, the meteksan,

the store, I think it earns the best money :) Who is the

owner who is the richest!

Our FB building is located in between Fine Arts and

architecture department which are linked with each other

inside and they are parts of an overall one building plus

where 1st year students study on the 1st, and 4th grades

study on the 4th floor. In the mid-section of the

building, you can find the secretary and instructors and

in the left and right wings classrooms are located.

Restrooms can be found on the left wing on each floor. The

conference hall which can be also used to watch films and

for lectures is situated on the 3rd floor in addition to

the dark room for photography. There are panos on the last

floor which are used to exhibit students' works on.

When you get out the FB building, you can find Express

Cafe on your left where you can rest and have your lunch

or a cup of coffee. The cafe's overall design reminds you

of Starbuck's cafe. When you walk toward right in front of

you, there is Speed Cafe which consists of three different

eateries in which you can find different menus. This place

is probably the biggest and crowded eatery in the whole

Bilkent main campus.

Entrance -> Security guard sitting at the desk, though not

all time; when he is not present people sneak cigarettes

into the building or light them inside before leaving the

door (where it's almost always impossible to get the

lighter to function properly due to the strong gusts of wind).

Making along, Cengiz's room -> he normally leaves for

lunch when the weather is warm; comes back around one,

sits in his room and watches people passing by (though he

thinks that we don't see him looking). Mimis room right

next to Cengiz's just on the other side; now Alessandro

sits there; his bike is also leaned against the table most

of the time. The room next to Mimis old room has Orhan - my

advisor and the film production teacher; he is almost never

there, some Fridays he comes in, and only briefly sits in

his office, looking important -> he mostly writes messages

to people from his cellphone and checks his e-mail... The

stairs that follow from the entrance and go between

Alessandro + Cengiz, are very un-step, only 6 or 7 steps.

They can easily be passed in 2 if one's in a hurry.

Moving along -> to the right of the steps is the "unknown"

part of the Architecture building, which we graphic

students rarely step foot on, considering the rivalry

between departments.

The opposite side of the steps, the left -> Alex's +

Mariusz's classroom. There is a tea-room the way to both

the rooms, yet it has been turned into the "Janitor's

office", where the absolutely insane cleaner keeps his

stuff. Between Alex's room and the two flights of stairs

going up and down, there is the animation room with all

the necessary apparatus; it's always closed and has no use

to anyone (unless they are taking animation that is).

Alex's classroom. Enough said.

Next -> Mariusz's room; cold, always dark, even with the

lights on, unfriendly. The walls are all vandalized by my

classmates and me, from last year.

Upstairs -> bathroom, girl's bathroom. Dirty, smelly.

Enough said. We smoked up there once last year; the

bathroom smells so badly that nobody could even consider

smelling the weed.

Upstairs one more flight -> Beata's studio and the

numerous plants that surround it; dirty walls; Beata's

studio is messy 98% of the time, easels, paper, chairs; it

has a generally positive working environment, except for

when we have to do still life. The room has three heaters,

for Aysen (model), who always complains that we talk too

much and that she can't concentrate.

Next -> a table-tennis table, turned upside down and to

the wall. Why? Nobody knows the mistery of the table.

Electric devices covered by a white wall. Our classroom is

generally cold, but once the windows are closed it becomes

bearable. Old tables, all cut up and messy. Desks are

never in order, but it's still a great classroom.

Next -> Marek's classroom. Generally unvisited by us,

unless materials are required; materials that have

generally been forgotten and are now necessary to be

obtained by Marek; he can't know tha twe forgot them, so

we slip into the neighbouring class and "borrow" paper,

rulers, scissors, knives... blah. Marek's classroom seems

a little more organized than ours.

Same floor - the auditorium and the photography room. The

auditorium is generally used for Cayla's Art & History and

Art & Culture classes. We have our photography lessons

there with Murat. It's a dead class, with lous banging

chairs. The dark room, just around the corner. Is has four

sections, 5 actually; Aydin's office with an insane amount

of stickers on the door; right opposite is the solution

"karanlik odasi", then the white photo-shoot room with a

white caving and ceiling, projectors, files in the glass

book case and a photo-drier. The door to the very very

dark room for film development has a mirror on it.

The last room, like a maze goes into the red-light dark

room; it has three sections with red lights and then a

studio for developing the photographs. 3 trays with the

developers and fixers; with the tweezers hanging off the

side. The last tray is with water; it has two taps. The

counter perimeter of the room is all occupied with

expanders, behind curtains. Last but not least: the 3rd

and 4th year students floor. I know nothing about it,

except for the video room, Anita's classroom and Mehmet's

computer lab.

That's it. Enjoy :)

If you want the worst digital copy for the highest price

in Turkey come to Graphich Design in Bilkent. It’s in

mac-lab of the 4th floor which is also the highest level.

The prices are ten times of the market but the quality is

half. Looks like the game of misfortune, because people

who are in desire of print-out mostly and extremely are in

here, also. However the King (defender of the holly lab)

Mehmet Abi who can even scold the teachers and eat

students alive, beleives that its fair enough. I said 4th

floor is the highest level because you start your

education in first one, then according to your success you

may jump one upper floor per year and there is no upper

floor then the 4th. Besides it is the hardest to climb

physically.

Also the most precious conferance room is in here. In that

room you can watch films and all through the semester most

of the films all over the campus are shown here. At first

floor you can find grafitties on the walls and in front of

the entrance a big message board. Especially the anonymous

drawing about basic design in front of Alex’s class door

(120 or 121) needs to be seen. In every floor you can

find  works of students on walls some are permenant and

some not. It is one of the characteristics of our building

and other may obviously the cats all around. They can even

come to class and jump to tables to make fun with us. All

of these adds more colors to our lives and it may be good.

Except the computer engineers (they have Mozart in front

of their lab) our department is one of the closest to a

cafeteria (express). If you are in class and think about

food, you can start to eat it in 30 seconds and it is very

nice. Just like the interior architechture building ours

are very close to Meteksan. If you are in class and think

about a material you can also reach that in 30 seconds but

have to wait some times for an hour to able to buy it. In

Bilkent buildings are not just to protect people from wind

and rain, unlike in many other schools. Some has very nice

naturel light like G building and some contains modern and

post-modern elements like (F series) ours. Also the

exteriors have beautifully decorative plantations which

makes people calm and happy.
