“ Learning to Read and Write Images ”
As the time passes by, many things changed and became more
simplified. The technology is the most strong thing that really
affected our life. The understanding of design has changed it’s
discipline by the new media.
New media which includes all the territories of design has
became complex by the disciplines which are intricately linked
through a great diversity of media, which means it is mixed and
being used by many techniques such as the publication formats in
prints.
Among of all the fields of design, graphic design is the one which
will remain still in time. By creating a new style, designers create
a new path to be followed by the other designers: every designer
influence the others work by creating an unusual style which is
never used before, so that designers can use/mix it with their own
style - they use it as an example.
The new screen based media has become a stage set although it
was derived as an instrument of information delivery on screen,
and this applys to any medium which graphic designers work with.
In future graphic design will deal with mixed style so called
‘new media’ and it will become extently disciplined. To this
highly international field of design critisicism to stimulate and
provoke each other write critically about the changing contexts
that we all see in in this field.

New media has changed the expectations of design discipline.
It has barely been formulated. Technology became the tool of
struggling of design. By the time it changed many techniques
and styles so the concept of understanding of design has changed
too, but still the basic things remain.
Visiual communication has become a complex field of design
and it is linked through a great diversity of media.
Expansive field bounderies are rapidly blurring to the extent of
extinction. Rethinking of existing ideas of graphic design can
still be discerned. The changes within graphic design is not
confined to be called the new media.
The formal design of products of visual communications is
expanding by the people ‘class operators’. Quoting Lorraine
Wild: “Designers as the persons with a vision not necessarily
the visualizers.” This means that designers are the ones who
create the vision to make the people become the visualizers.
Graphic design is at the core of visual communication.
From the conceptual formulation, the editional analysis changes
the realization of the product, so that the conceptual way of
looking has changed.

Nowadays, it seems that the most effective tool for design is
technology. That’s because technology makes even the simplier
thing the simpliest. By the usage of technology also the
expectations of design have changed, in the sense of concept,
techniques and styles used. But while technology changes, the
complex part of design, the basic rules still remain.
Visual communication is also an effective tool for design
because it is directly come out from the new media. Mixing both
the visual and technological aspects gives different meaning to
design.
One of the design style created by this complex media is that
the graphic design gives other design areas their way. Graphic
design is something which will stay powerful as time passes.
It is something without an end, because there are many things
to be learned by time for developing the field of graphic design.
Although technology enlarges this field, the designers also
learn things from each other, so that new ideas come out, to
keep the wind for the graphic design wave, too.
This changes occuring in the design field, make the meaning
of design more disciplined by the time. It seems like in the
future, not only one style or one technique will be used in one
design process. There will be used a mixed type of these styles
which we call new media.
Therefore the new media also changes its meaning during the
time. But this is not something to avoid the design concept
developments – probably the time will expand the term ‘design’.

Graphic design reveals a desire to communicate ideas and values
in the most visually compelling way possible that’s why it is
often pronounced as visual communication increasingly.
Also graphic design got bigger. The profession of graphic design
broadened as the boundaries between disciplines became
blurred through the application and opportunities of new digital
technologies. In our times, graphic design has grown from
primary, static mediums like books, posters and any other
static displays, to movenment, play like motion graphics and
also it is open to interactions like graphic user interfaces in
websites. Also computer and sowtware systems has lessened
the need for traditional tools of pen, paper, sccissors and
cutters. New computer technologies make life easier for graphic
designer for example the execution of boks making got easier.
This evolution of graphic design will continue as new
technological developments appear. So some of the most
important common concerns about today’s graphic design area
are bluring boundaries between disciplines and the importance
of content as well as formal elemnts and aesthetics, the
importance of advanced technology.
When catching the viewers’ attention, a graphic designers’ job
is not only creating something that is visually arresting but
also the final product should have a meaningful content.
Besides formal qualities and producing something aesthetic,
precise contexts and meanings are also very important. This can
be achieved in many different ways like creating an intelligent
humor, a visual ambuigity or a double coded meaning. Either way
there has to be something intellectually challenging. Because
people also look for meaning in the phsical form of the things
they see. If used well the meaning comes out and the process of
visual communication is well served. Otherwise the design would
be consumed only by the prettiness of the message’s presentation.
