- In compliance with the Higher Education Council Executive Board decision of June 19, 2012, starting with the 2011-2012 Fall semester, students getting an F or FX grade in Fall and Spring semester courses will be eligible for a final exam retake, provided the course has a final exam.
- Final Exam Retake will not be administered in courses that do not have a final exam, such as studio courses, practical courses, project courses, etc. English and French Preparatory Programs and Summer School courses are also excluded.
- English Preparatory Program students who fail the COPE exam given at the end of the Spring semester and who are at the end of their two years in the program are eligible to retake the COPE exam at the beginning of the following Fall semester. Other than this, there will be no retake exams for COPE.
- Application dates, retake exam dates and grade announcement deadlines are announced in the academic calendar. For each semester, the schedule of retake exams is announced by the Rectorate. A minimum period of three weeks following the application deadline is allocated to allow students prepare for the retake exams.
- The relative weights of all in-semester evaluation activities (midterm exams, projects, lab or studio work, homework, quizzes, etc.) and the final exam are determined by the course instructor and announced to the students at the beginning of the semester. The letter grades are determined by the instructor.
- Students who receive an F or FX grade in a course that has a final exam may apply for a final exam retake within the application period announced in the academic calendar. Students who do not apply before the deadline cannot retake the final exam. There are no fees for applications.
- Students who have conditionally or unconditionally passed a course may not apply to retake the final exam.
- Results of the final exam retake replace the original final exam score. The course instructor determines the new letter grade.
- Students who have applied for a final exam retake may not register to retake the same course before the results of the retake are announced. Students who have registered to retake a previously failed course in a semester or in the summer session may not apply to retake the final exam in the failed course.
- Course instructors report the new letter grades to the Registrar before the deadline announced in the academic calendar.
- No make-up exams are given for a missed retake exam, regardless of the reasons put forth. Students who do not take a retake exam even tough they have a standing application to do so are considered to have failed the exam. The new letter grade given as a result of the retake exam are shown in the student’s transcript as such, and replaces the previous grade in the cumulative GPA calculation, but is not included in the semester GPA. Based on the calendar involving retake exams, grades of Fall semester courses are shown in the Spring semester, grades of Spring semester courses are shown in the Summer session.
- Temporary regulations: Retake exams for the 2011-2012 Fall and Spring semester courses will be held in August and September. The three week study period mentioned above will be two weeks for this year. Resulting letter grades will be shown in the transcript under the Summer session. Students who have repeated a previously failed course in the Summer session and have conditionally or unconditionally passed this course will not be admitted to the retake exam for this course. Students who have taken a course in both the Fall and Spring semesters are eligible to take a single retake exam for that course.
