- Start your online application process. Please note that you will be prompted to set up an account, if this is your first time. Provide any necessary details as required.
STEP 2: Transcripts & Bachelor’s degree
- Upload up-to-date transcript(s).
- Note that minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5/4.00 (or equivalent) is required.
- Be prepared to submit the official copies during registration.
- Also note that Bachelor’s degrees are verified through the Council of Higher Education.
STEP 3: Examinations & Scores
- Submit one of the following official English proficiency test scores, if your native language is not English:
- TOEFL (IBT): 87, IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (at least 5.5 in each section), or Bilkent Proficiency Exam (PAE) Exam: C, taken within the past two years and valid during registration.
- Submit valid ALES or GRE (for international students) scores:
- ALES: Turkish applicants must submit a valid verbal ALES score of minimum 60.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE): International applicants must submit official verbal, quantitative and analytic writing scores of the Graduate Record Exam. A combined valid GRE score of 295 with a 3.5 in analytical writing is required.
STEP 4: References
- Submit at least two letters of recommendation: The online application system requires applicants to provide an e-mail address for each referee; a link then is sent to each referee, allowing them to submit an online reference, or upload a reference document.
STEP 5: Statement of Purpose
- Upload your statement of purpose describing your academic and professional background, reasons for applying, your research interests, your career plans and why you are a good fit for the program ( 500-600 words).
STEP 6: Other Information
- Submit your CV or resume
- Submit any other relevant documents, including certificates, achievements.
APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS
Admission to the MA in TEFL program is a competitive process. After you submit your online application, an in-depth review of your file is conducted, considering seats available as well as relative strengths, and scholarly potential of applicants. The process also includes the following phases:
- All applicants are screened to check if they meet the minimum academic threshold as indicated in the entry requirements.
- Based on thorough review, some applicants progress to the next phase. During this phase, applicants may be contacted to collect more information concerning supporting documents.
- Once review of the application file is completed, the candidates concerned are notified within a month, or earlier, after the application deadline.
- The final phases include the official approval of the university, and providing official documents during registration.
